The second airdrop of GRASS was a fiasco and a true aberration. For the vast majority, at best they receive a bag of chips (1.50€). For those of us with a few followers, referrals, etc., it at least covers a mixed durum kebab menu + fries + Coca‑Cola Zero (≈10€). Many will say “ugh, we’ve been farmed,” “ugh, we’ve been scammed,” “ugh this project is trash,” and that may be true—I don’t know. But precisely, this might be the most bullish thing that has happened to the project in a long time. Giving a large airdrop is not necessarily good for the token, its fundamentals, the project, or retail and institutional holders. When you give away millions of dollars in your own token, the overwhelming majority of people sell immediately. That creates brutal price pressure from the first minute, and Grass has already experienced a brutal sell‑off since its launch a year‑plus ago, and a second wave of selling during a bear market could deliver a mortal blow to the token or the project, making it unsustainable and unable to recover. Conversely, when the airdrop amounts are small, the selling incentive disappears for many. If you received little money, you’re unlikely even to move it. A minority may feel disappointed, cheated, sell their token and uninstall or shut down their apps. However, in the end the market is the judge and will likely stop focusing on "free money" and return to what matters: - Whether the product can attract and retain users. - Whether the product generates revenue. - Whether it is ahead of its competitors. - Whether there is genuine demand for the token. A bad airdrop can be bad news for airdrop hunters. But it is not necessarily bad for holders, for small or large investors, or for those who believe it is a good project with some future potential. An airdrop is meant to distribute tokens, decentralize the network, incentivize participation and build community, and give credibility to the project. But airdrops per se do not create value, and many times—though not always—the two can be in conflict. I don’t know what Solana:Grass7B4RdKfBCjTKgSqnXkqjwiGvQyFbuSCUJr3XXjs will do later, whether they’ll slowly upgrade, whether it’s truly different from other AI projects, whether it will stumble, I don’t know. But I don’t think things are as bleak as some paint them. Grass this year is one of the few altcoins that has performed much better than Bitcoin and Ethereum, seems to have confirmed the floor, and is close to fully recovering and leaving behind the October 10 candle, while the vast majority of altcoins still show weakness and keep bleeding. At the moment, GRASS has a market cap of about $350 million, and if I’m not dreaming, it was said some time ago that they had eight‑figure annual revenues, and that all of this would be verified on‑chain and give value to holders via a burn or buy‑back mechanism or something similar. I repeat, I don’t know what will happen, nor what GRASS will do in the future; I wish I knew. As of today, in my opinion they have a brutal business model, and for now I don’t think they have competitors in their niche—it’s a digital monopoly, and the world’s biggest AI companies need massive amounts of data to train, update and improve their models. If Grass can prove its data adds a differential value, perhaps all of them will become good customers in the future. That’s a hypothesis, the wet dream of the project and investors, we don’t know if it will become reality. But certainly I don’t think Grass is as dead as many are painting it for just giving a second airdrop that’s a bit irregular. And be careful because in the crypto world you already know what usually ends up happening to those projects that are declared dead. I think we need to look a little further.

4 days until the @grass tokenholder call and we might be staring at a classic hated rally after the Stage 2 airdrop disappointment + equity-style FUD. Farmers are rightfully frustrated with small USDC payouts despite months of uptime. That frustration is understandable on the surface. But the bigger picture in deAI right now is compute networks will slowly be flooding the market with cheaper GPUs and driving down training costs and the problem will be soon shifted to fresh, diverse and continuously updated data. Frontier models are trained on over 10's of trillion tokens w heavy multimodal components (text + images + video). At the same time, public human-generated text data is projected to be exhausted between 2026 and 2032 under current scaling trends. This is exactly where $GRASS is positioned. And that's why I believe this hated setup in real AI infra will lead to violent repricings especially as the fundamentals hit us.

Season 1 was incredibly profitable. JP 300 USD more But after that I was unable to log in for 2-3 months, and then couldn't log in again! Fortunately, Season 2 was mediocre, so I didn't feel missing out much https://t.co/vdaejKN4UO

I think @grass and @0xdrej announcing they are paying out rewards in USDC is a positive for several reasons. Namely because it demonstrates that their business model (Millions of nodes harvesting historical and real time information for AI Labs) works and is profitable. Grass has graduated from idea to a profitable business whereas most DEPIN projects are never able to cross this juncture. Using USDC for rewards means less GRASS sent to contributors and sold. Transcending to a revenue generating entity is really important and unique. The world has also changed where projects can not use 100% of their income to buy/burn token supply. Grass has real fixed/variable costs to run its business (servers, GPUs, talent, etc). I want them to massively grow the business as I don't invest in founders for small wins Eventually in my opinion (given no equity entity) grass will return value to token holders after it grows into an even larger and mature business. The math is simple startups use money for growth and once the return on an additional dollar is below the target rate it makes more sense to return that capital. For those annoyed on lower payouts, I think the market needs to find an equilibrium on the number of nodes required and giving more rewards to more useful nodes in the network. There are nodes on the network which are getting much larger payouts since they are very useful for the business. I'd also note some annoyed folks are running out of date applications that are not routing traffic. Disc. Today, Grass announced that it is rewarding network participants in USDC instead of its native token. Grass reached profitability near the end of last year, and is now in the unusual position of being able to compensate contributors directly from the revenue the network generates. To me, this represents an important milestone. A network should eventually graduate from subsidized growth to a self-sustaining economy. Token incentives are a powerful tool for bootstrapping supply, but they should not become a permanent substitute for real demand. The end state was never "pay people with tokens forever." The end state is a business with customers, cash flow, and a network whose participants are compensated because the underlying service creates real economic value. We're still early in that journey, and there's an enormous amount of work ahead of us. But today feels like an important step, and it makes me incredibly excited for what's next.

Grass just made one of the strangest moves in a long time after almost two years of farming, people expected the obvious thing: a normal $GRASS token payout instead, the Stage 2 checker is showing USDC rewards, which completely changes the vibe of the whole thing for a lot of users, that’s probably not the update they were waiting for it feels less like a classic airdrop moment and more like the project is quietly redefining what the reward actually it 🟢That’s what makes this interesting @grass was one of the first browser-node projects, and the first drop in 2024 made the whole thing look very generous at the time since then, people kept farming for a second round, expecting the usual token-based payoff but now the checker is live for Stage 2, and the rewards being shown are stablecoins instead of a fresh token distribution that’s a pretty big shift, especially after such a long wait 🟢And this raises the obvious question: what is the real value here? if users spent nearly two years contributing bandwidth, why is the reward now framed in USDC? maybe that makes the payout cleaner and more practical maybe it also means the project is trying to move away from pure token speculation and toward a more direct business model either way, it changes how people will read the whole farming story 🟢The bigger point is that this is not bout checker page it’s about how crypto projects define value after the first hype cycle is over a lot of people were waiting for a second $GRASS allocation, but what they got instead looks much closer to a cash-style payout that can be seen as more useful, or as a signal that the token story is weaker than expected and in crypto, those two interpretations usually matter a lot more than the announcement itself 🟢So yes, @grass is back in the conversation but not because everyone got the token drop they were expecting it’s back because the reward model itself feels different now, and that’s what makes the update worth paying attention to after 2 years of farmin, this is the kind of detail people will remember not just that rewards arrived, but that they arrived in a way almost nobody had on their bingo card

Grass airdrop switched from token to USDC, the amount is small, weakening the token value narrative.
