There's a reason @datafdn has been seeing more activity lately. Open Trace, their tool for auditing AI data, and you'll see the AI data being registered consistently. Story switched to licensing data to AI companies offchain. This leaves registrations as the only current onchain signal that's still relevant. Let's break it down ↓ 1/ Where DATA's revenue comes from DATA Foundation is easy to misread if you treat it like a regular L1. Most people judge chains by fees, volume, and active users. By that standard, but there are better metrics to be looking at in this case. The chain is currently focused on getting real-world training data registered onchain so it can be licensed. The licensing itself, where the revenue is, happens offchain. So low onchain fees aren't a problem, they're just the model working as intended. Now that there's 1 to 5 million assets registered per day, on track to register 1 billion due to their partnership with @usekled, I think it would be wise to monitor their chain activity

ICYMI, Story rebrands to @datafdn, shifting focus from IP tokenization to consented AI training data (IP → DATA). Why the pivot? In short, The original Story Protocol struggled with broad IP adoption because traditional IP owners resisted open programmability. ❶ IP PMF miss Major rights holders preferred closed licensing; long-tail creators couldn’t bootstrap liquidity. ❷ Chicken-and-egg + switching costs Needed both IP supply and buyers; builders stayed on existing chains; IP tooling made integration painful. ❸ AI-era urgency Demand moved to provenance-verified training data, making broad IP tokenization less pressing. ❹ Token incentives High valuations + low usage raised sell-pressure fears; unlock delays and “revenue isn’t the metric” signaled weak traction. ❺ Execution/perception Big promises, leadership changes, and low revenue/TVL made the narrative feel ahead of the product. The rebrand to The $DATA Foundation is not just a name change, it is a deliberate consolidation around a full-stack data

Do many people still remember the IP (Story) project? It has been renamed. Story Protocol is officially renamed to The DATA Foundation (@datafdn) $IP is renamed to $DATA, and Story Network upgraded to DATA Network I have been building this project for several months. Let me share my view. Its goal is clear: to become the trust layer for all AI training data, and it has already tracked over 1 billion data records. I think this pivot is correct. Previously, the IP licensing framework addressed copyright ownership, but the real bottleneck for AI is not there. Whether data can be traced, whether licensing relationships are clear, and whether quality can be verified—these three issues are the true bottlenecks of the data supply chain. Expanding from the IP framework to a more complete data infrastructure provides verifiable narratives and gives the existing tech stack a more direct foothold. // However, I have several questions that I haven’t figured out yet. When decentralization pursues scale, how can it truly establish "trust"? These two aspects inherently have tension. Can the long‑term incentive design for data contributors, and the balance between privacy protection and data openness, form a sustainable closed loop? It is still unclear. Also, integration with data markets like Kled needs to see whether it can truly avoid the old path of centralized platforms. // The narrative layer is nicely executed. But the data layer determines AI’s ceiling; this race ultimately hinges on real adoption, ecosystem density, and delivering actual value to AI developers. This step is worth continuous tracking, but it’s not time to draw a definitive conclusion yet. The above content is for reference only and does not constitute investment advice. DYOR

. Story protocol renamed to Data foundation > $IP is now $DATA > Clearly this transformation is not about price or anything, but it clearly shows what the project's next focus is. > And what is the main upcoming goal of the project's development? > Can you guess what the name is?
