its honestly pretty rare that the beta outperforms the leader the last few years. I've generally just stuck to buying the main runner and fading the beta and it's mostly worked out. with that said, we appear to be in an environment where the beta *might* outpace the leader in the short term.

will probably write something a bit longer on this topic later, need to remind myself. but the general gist is:

1) find out which sector each coin goes into and which ones are the main leaders. ex. hype = perp dex leader. beta = avnt/lit/order/aster, etc

or zec = privacy leader. beta = xmr, strk, Dusk, and a few others

2) watch which leader is clearly outpacing the market. recently, it's zec and hype. therefore those 2 sectors will lead. The general life cycle is: strong leader outpaces everything and then the beta starts to spring up

3) figure out all the beta and see if this is the type of environment IF the beta can actually outperform the leader. the last few years ,this hasn't really been the case on higher time frames.

4) the beta rarely outpaces the leader overall and once the leader starts to fade, the beta dies 2x as quickly (if not more).

anyways, yeah, right now we're clearly seeing LIT catch a bid after the huge HYPE move. LIT/HYPE chart is pretty awful and its clearly underperformed but we'll see if it can catch up at all.
